Reminders:
Knowledge Essays are due this Friday, October 28th. (See Rubric Below) Blog Posts are due on Monday, October 31st. (See Directions Below) I have also posted these to our calendar. Building on our essay planning for our Knowledge Essays, below I have provided not only the video for writing a thesis statement, but there are examples of how to use the graphic organizers to plan out your writing. Remember, if you are going to talk about a subject in detail, it HAS to be in your thesis statement.
Below is a sample Thesis Statement. You MUST have this done BEFORE you start planning your essay.

Below is a sample of the Knowledge Essay Graphic Organizer. Notice how it follows the Thesis Statement? That's Good Planning!!!!
So, today we reviewed how to com up with a main research question. Using our example of "Bees," we determined key points about the topic, brainstormed how and why questions, and talked about which key points we need to focus on in order to answer that question. The point is to stay on point, and not go off on irrelevant tangents that do not address the question.
The website below explains how to develop a good Main Research Question if you are struggling with this. Remember, you have to have enough information to answer your research topic for the Knowledge Based portion of your IS Project.
Your Main Research Questions and Knowledge Questions must be completed by the end of your class on Monday!!! "The larger the island of knowledge, the longer the shoreline of wonder." ~Ralph W. Sockman10/6/2016 We are finalizing our topics for IS and Knowledge based questions.
Just a quick review, Knowledge questions focus on JUST THE FACTS!!! Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How. Here in the Resource Room, we have to do research in order to develop good questions, not the other way around. Good research does not generate just answers, but it should more importantly generate more questions. Keep checking in with me about your topics and questions. On Monday we will be focusing on coming up with our over-arching question for the entire project. Don't limit the number of questions you are asking! Put as many questions as you want into the class grid; it's easier to pare them down that try to add last minute. |
